There’s nothing more natural than fear; it’s ingrained in our very DNA that we should fear our environments. Anxiety is a part of life because it ushers us to work towards something, and punishes us for lounging about. That’s why the fear of failure is so intense for budding entrepreneurs; they deal with stress from two sources.

Building a successful startup means facing your fears and overcoming them, to grow as a person. Before you can see worthwhile revenue, you need to overcome your fear of competition. And before your company becomes a household name, you need to overcome your anxiety by working towards that goal.

The tests any startup must go through before it can be called successful are the same trials its leader must go through. If the company fails, the company’s leader fails because they are one the same. Yet, failure doesn’t need to be a bad thing.

Your company is like a child: it takes time to find its own strengths and weaknesses. If you take care of it, it will take care of you and you will be able to watch it naturally develop beyond your own personal vision for it. But succeed once, and you will make a name for yourself.

As an entrepreneur, it’s your job to keep teams together and focused on shared goals. You lead people to a collective vision, and for that, your teams need to be close. The relationships between individual employees need to run deeply, and each person needs to be committed to the team.

Failure can help people become more passionate about what they do and who they do it with. Languishing in failure may strain relationships between people on your teams, and between teams themselves. They may blame each other for the failure, whatever it may be.

Yet if you work to overcome failure, everyone’s relationships will become stronger for it. By overcoming failure, people will learn about each other’s strengths and shortcomings, and they will realize they can count on each other for support. That will result in an overall stronger company — one that’s ready to fail, and therefore grow, again!

Entrepreneurs are always striving to build the next big, successful startup company. They are people with a vision of something they want to change the world, and the courage to pursue it. The only thing that holds them back is a fear of failing in that pursuit.

And that doesn’t make sense — failure is something entrepreneurs should embrace, instead of avoiding it. By failing at something, entrepreneurs get the opportunity to identify weaknesses that need to be fixed to face future challenges. Failure is the process of getting stronger as a person, and as a company.
